Cherries

Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to Sweet Cherries after this week. For our best price, buy bulk to freeze and use all year. My wife swears by freezing fruit every summer: “The store just can’t compete with the flavor of fruit picked at the peak of freshness and frozen. You’ll thank yourself for the effort when you’re enjoying the best cherry pie of your life in January!”

Brand New Veggies!

In other local produce news, Blue Mountain Farm has cranked up operations for summer and has brand-new vegetables! Get your delicious Cucumbers, Summer Squash, Zucchini, and Green Beans! Grace is over the moon to see fresh yellow squash again (She sent me to the CT Farmer’s Market today to get some of Dave’s because she didn’t want to wait until next week!). This was our go-to breakfast all last summer:

Cook your favorite breakfast meat on the griddle or cast iron skillet, then delicious slices of zucchini and yellow squash cooked in the drippings, salt and pepper liberally applied. Once those are removed, cook your eggs in the same pan. Delicious! Optional- throw on pieces of sourdough bread in between the veggies and the eggs.

Paper & Vine Design – Beautiful saint-themed T-shirts. I was thrilled to see that three of the designs feature Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati! Many of you remember how our Market got its start during the height of the pandemic with Dynamic Donuts Delivery. You may not remember that Grace and I worked with other young adults to raise money for the Frassati mosaic!

Antonina’s Garden handcrafted soap and body products are made from lard. Lard? On your skin? Yes! Lard mimics our natural skin oils. This makes our soaps and balms more nourishing than plant-based soaps. Lard is a gentle and natural way to cleanse your skin and moisturize without clogging your pores.

Before other oils were imported or manufactured, soaps were made from animal fat. It’s likely what your grandmother or great-grandmother used. The lard for our soaps and balms comes from a small family farm. How great is it that we can use the whole animal and reduce waste!
