Injured at Philippi, Virginia in the first land battle of the war, Hanger went on to start a manufacturing company in 1861 to make artificial limbs. His company today, Hanger Inc., is the country’s largest manufacturer of artificial limbs and orthotics.
I am retired and a full-time author. My first book was published in 2006. I have been named four times as finalist in National Book Awards competition. I have now published 20 books, mostly on the American Civil War.
