Peaches! Veggies! New Vendors! (Oh My!!)

June 22, 2024

Happy Saturday, St. Isidore Market Family!

Big News!!

Peaches are in! I can’t believe it’s time already, but Twin Ridge Orchard has fresh and juicy Sentry Yellow Peaches this week. They are a semi-freestone. Since it’s early in the season, they will be medium-size. Expect larger peaches as we head toward August. Buy by the 1/2 bushel for extra savings!

Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to Sweet Cherries after this week. For our best price, buy in bulk to freeze and use all year. My wife swears by freezing fruit every summer: “The store just can’t compete with the flavor of fruit picked at the peak of freshness and frozen. You’ll thank yourself for the effort when you’re enjoying the best cherry pie of your life in January!”

In other local produce news, Blue Mountain Farm has cranked up operations for summer, and has brand new vegetables! Get your delicious Cucumbers, Summer Squash, Zucchini, and Green Beans! Grace is over the moon to see fresh yellow squash again (She actually sent me to the CT Farmer’s Market today to get her some of Dave’s because she didn’t want to wait until next week!). This was our go-to breakfast all last summer:

Cook your favorite breakfast meat on the griddle or cast iron skillet, then delicious slices of zucchini and yellow squash cooked in the drippings, salt and pepper liberally applied. Once those are removed, cook your eggs in the same pan. Delicious! Option, throw on pieces of sourdough bread in between the veggies and the eggs.

The St. Isidore Market happily welcomes two new vendors this week:

  • Paper & Vine Design – Beautiful saint-themed T-shirts. I was thrilled to see that three of the designs feature Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati! Many of you remember how our Market got its start during the height of the pandemic with Dynamic Donuts Delivery. You may not remember that Grace and I were working together with other young adults to raise money for the Frassati mosaic!
  • Antonina’s GardenAntonina’s Garden handcrafts soap and body products made from lard. Lard? On your skin? Yes! Lard mimics our natural skin oils. This makes our soaps and balms especially nourishing, more so than plant-based soaps. Lard is a gentle and natural way to cleanse your skin and moisturize without clogging your pores. Before other oils were imported or manufactured, soaps were made from animal fat. It’s likely what your grandmother or great-grandmother used. The lard for our soaps and balms comes from a small family farm. How great is it that we can use the whole animal and reduce waste! From farm to home workshop to here…our soaps and balms are crafted in small batches with consideration for your health and the world around you.
  • Whimsical Meadows Farm has several new baked goods this week, and they look delicious! If you have a special event coming up, consider grabbing a Ring-a-Ding-Dong Cake. I have to admit, I’ve never heard of this flavor, but the chocolate cake with a creamy white filling and chocolate ganache frosting promises decadence! In addition, check out Cutie Buns (Pick between Bunny & Hedgehog designs, or both!) and Brioche Braided Bread

**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Country Creamery will be closed this next week, so none of their products are available. They are doing some much needed renovations around the farm. Don’t worry, they’ll be back in July!

**NO MARKET IN TWO WEEKS!!** In observance of Independence Day, which falls on a Thursday two weeks from now, there will not be a St. Isidore Market on July 4th. Please buy the clean and affordable Crestview Meat you need for your 4th of July cookouts This Week!

Don’t miss this week’s Market! Order now before noon on Tuesday to ensure you get everything you want at pick up on Thursday! Let us know if you need any help placing your order this week. Happy Shopping and we look forward to seeing you this Thursday, June 27th, from 5:00-6:30 pm in the St. James piazza!
