Description

Juan Diego, was a Chichimec peasant and Marian visionary. He is said to have been granted apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe on four occasions in December 1531. Our Lady gave him Castilian roses! That alone was a miraculous sign since they did not grow in Mexico, let alone in the middle of December. Juan did not realize — until after he opened his cloak letting the roses tumble out — that an image of Our Blessed Mother was emblazoned on his tilma. The apparitions and the miracle have had a significant impact on the spread of the Catholic Faith within Mexico.
